Water is Precious

Summer vegetables are growing quickly with the few warm days so far. Tomatoes are reaching for the sky, zucchinis are growing strong and pumpkins are starting on their journey. The summer vegetables need warm weather to thrive, they also need plenty of water.

Without water there is no food and no life. In my garden I have been trying to be as sustainable as possible by undertaking waterwise measures and conserving water. Wicking beds have been installed which allows me to grow vegetables using minimal water.

Water tanks catch rainwater and store until needed. It takes the pressure off the scheme water source that is pumped all the way from Nannup from the Yarragadee aquifer. And water tanks give us some security if the pipeline ever fails. Other ways I have been getting my garden waterwise enough to survive this summer are mulching, soil amendments, waterwise sprinklers, trays under pots and shade trellises.
